The Silver Magic Marching Band (SMMB) is under the direction of Mr. Jim Ortega. Partnering with the Silver Magic Band Booster Association (non-Profit 501c3), the SMMB works to support our athletics, school, and community by attending various events performing and promoting the visual and musical arts. The SMMB participates in many events locally and around the state to include ALL football games for Mariner High School, local and state competitions in Florida, as well as many community events. The SMMB is a competitive unit with a rich history receiving many awards such as:

• Superior ratings
• Best in class at local competitions
• FMBC State Semi Finalists and Finalists
• 6-time State Champion (in classes AA and AAA) – ( The only school in Lee County with such honors)
• Bands of America National Regional Semi Finalist and Finalist – (The only school in Lee County with such honors)

The SMMB also participates in many community events such as:

• Edson festival of Lights Jr. Parade
• Edison festival of Lights Grande Parade
• Opening Ceremonies for Cape Coral youth baseball
• Veterans Day Ceremonies (in support of JROTC)
• Community Concerts

The SMMB rehearses every Monday and Wednesday from 5pm to 8:30pm .

Music Classes We Offer

We offer many different music classes at Mariner High School.

Band 1- Beginning Band – For students learning a new instrument or are new to music

Band 3 & 4- Wind Ensemble - for advanced players and all members participating in the SMMB. This is the TOP performing Ensemble at Mariner High School

Keyboard 1-4 (Class Piano) – A class to learn piano technique and a variety of piano literature

Instrumental Techniques (Percussion class) – A class for students to learn about various percussion instruments for concert band and marching band

Eurythmics (Color Guard)  - Learn dance and equipment technique – open to all students regardless of membership in the SMMB

Jazz Band – for students to learn various jazz charts, techniques, and improvisation (for students with prior experience in music)
